Assessment of Digital Elevation Model for Digital Soil Mapping in a Watershed with Gently Undulating Topography Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Solo
Moura-Bueno,Jean Michel; Dalmolin,Ricardo Simão Diniz; ten Caten,Alexandre; Ruiz,Luis Fernando Chimelo; Ramos,Priscila Vogelei; Dotto,André Carnieletto.
ABSTRACT Terrain attributes (TAs) derived from digital elevation models (DEMs) are frequently used in digital soil mapping (DSM) as auxiliary covariates in the construction of prediction models. The DEMs and information extracted from it may be limited with regard to the spatial resolution and error magnitude, and can differ in the behavior of terrain features. The objective of this study was to evaluate the quality and limitations of free DEM data and to evaluate a topographic survey (TS) underlying the choice of a more appropriate model, for use in DSMs at a scale of 1:10,000. The study was conducted in an area of 937 ha in the watershed of Lajeado Giruá, in southern Brazil. The DEMs: DEM-TS, DEM-Topographic Map (TM), DEM-ASTER, DEM-SRTM, and...

Clay mineralogy and magnetic susceptibility of Oxisols in geomorphic surfaces Scientia Agricola
Camargo,Livia Arantes; Marques Júnior,José; Pereira,Gener Tadeu; Bahia,Angélica Santos Rabelo de Souza.
Studies analyzing the variability of clay minerals and magnetic susceptibility provide data for the delineation of site-specific management areas since many of their attributes are important to agronomy and the environment. This study aimed to evaluate the spatial variability of clay minerals, magnetic susceptibility, adsorbed phosphorus and physical attributes in Oxisols of sandstones in different geomorphic surfaces. For that purpose, soil samples were collected every 25 m along a transect located within the area where the geomorphic surfaces were identified and mapped. The transect occupied the central portion of 500 ha, where it was also sampled for density purposes with one sample per six hectares. Soil samples were collected at a depth of 0.0-0.2 m....

Prediction of soil orders with high spatial resolution: response of different classifiers to sampling density PAB
Sarmento,Eliana Casco; Giasson,Elvio; Weber,Eliseu; Flores,Carlos Alberto; Hasenack,Heinrich.
The objective of this work was to evaluate sampling density on the prediction accuracy of soil orders, with high spatial resolution, in a viticultural zone of Serra Gaúcha, Southern Brazil. A digital elevation model (DEM), a cartographic base, a conventional soil map, and the Idrisi software were used. Seven predictor variables were calculated and read along with soil classes in randomly distributed points, with sampling densities of 0.5, 1, 1.5, 2, and 4 points per hectare. Data were used to train a decision tree (Gini) and three artificial neural networks: adaptive resonance theory, fuzzy ARTMap; self‑organizing map, SOM; and multi‑layer perceptron, MLP. Estimated maps were compared with the conventional soil map to calculate omission and commission...

Spectral regionalization of tropical soils in the estimation of soil attributes Rev. Ciênc. Agron.
Demattê,José A. M.; Bellinaso,Henrique; Araújo,Suzana Romeiro; Rizzo,Rodnei; Souza,Arnaldo Barros.
ABSTRACT Conventional soil analysis produces large amount of residues and demand resources and time consuming. The construction of soil spectral database for estimating soil attributes is the newest alternative on soil mapping. The objective in this study was to build spectral libraries and study the quality of the generated prediction models for soil attributes. It was obtained 7185 soil spectral (400-2500 nm) in laboratory with respective soil analysis. The spectral libraries "general", "regional", and "local" were generated from these spectral readings. The general spectral library contained the full range of data and several states, the regional libraries contained data from geographically close municipalities, and the local libraries contained soil...
